Nobel laureate Nadia Murad lays brother to rest 12 years after ISIS Sinjar Massacre

Nobel Peace Prize laureate and ISIS captivity survivor Nadia Murad returned to Iraq to bury one of her six brothers killed in the 2014 ISIS massacre of Yazidis in Sinjar, after his remains were recovered, local Kurdish media reported.

“My brother Heji was one of the finest souls I have ever known,” Murad wrote on social media Thursday, as images circulated of her beside his grave.

“For more than 12 years, my family carried the pain of losing him without having the chance to say goodbye. Today, we finally have that chance. We can speak his name and honor his life,” she added, describing Heji as a cherished son, brother, husband and father.
