Lapid says there's no danger to election results after Shin Bet briefing on foreign interference probe

Following a briefing about the Shin Bet's investigation of suspicions of foreign interference in the elections, Opposition Leader Yair Lapid, emphasized that there is no danger that the election results could be overturned.

“I spoke today with representatives of Judge Solberg at the Central Elections Committee, and I met with Shin Bet chief David Zini. Based on my familiarity with the material and after hearing from the authorities handling the matter, there is no risk or concern that the election results could be challenged, and there is no impediment to swearing in the Knesset,” Lapid said.

The Shin Bet said in a separate statement that the information triggering the investigation didn't come from "a party or any political figure from either side" but was collected by intelligence. "Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Yashar party leader Gadi Eisenkot, and opposition leader Yair Lapid were personally briefed by the head of the Shin Bet over the past 24 hours on the main suspicions under investigation," the intelligence agency said.

“The investigation is focused and limited in scope. Only those who acted in violation of the law will be dealt with. An entire sector of society must not be stigmatized.”
