Israeli officials: Confrontation with Iran possible after elections – but depends on US
Israeli officials told Kan News on Tuesday evening that the possibility of a confrontation with Iran after the elections exists, but that it depends on the United States. According to the officials, Israel intends to pursue a joint operation with the Americans if President Donald Trump makes the decision to move forward.
CNN reported yesterday that the U.S. military is prepared to launch a large-scale attack on Iran within 96 hours of receiving an order from Trump, according to U.S. defense officials.
According to the report, the scope of the planned operation goes beyond tactical “mowing the grass” strikes intended to preserve the status quo and includes an extensive target bank drawn up by U.S. Central Command and the Pentagon against energy facilities, military bases and Iranian nuclear sites.
Officials familiar with the plans assessed that the question is not “if” but “when” the green light will be given, with the assessment that Trump is inclined to approve the operation by the end of the year, most likely after the U.S. midterm elections, which will take place early next month.
At the same time, amid concerns about an immediate Iranian response against U.S. targets in the region, the United States has begun quietly evacuating non-essential personnel from its embassies in the region.
