IDF prepares for West Bank olive harvest amid fears of violence
The Israel Defense Forces has completed preparations for the Palestinian olive harvest in Judea and Samaria (West Bank) amid concerns over rising violence, clashes between Palestinians and Israeli settlers, and possible terrorist attacks.
The military plans to coordinate harvesting in Areas A and B (areas where Israelis are restricted) while deploying forces to prevent friction between communities.
Military sources warned that this year’s harvest could be among the most violent in recent years, citing dozens of reported nationalist-crime incidents since the start of October. The IDF says most Palestinian land can be harvested without prior coordination, but coordination with the military and police is required in certain areas for security reasons.
There has been an increase in violence in Judea and Samaria in recent months.
