Houthi rebels capture two more Red Sea islands
The Houthi rebel group in Yemen, an Iranian proxy group, announced the capture of two additional islands in the Red Sea Monday.
Houthi rebels announced the capture of the islands of Greater and Lesser Hanish, near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, ostensibly allowing them to exert greater control over the shipping lane.
The new gains allow the rebel group to further threaten Saudi oil infrastructure and put economic pressure on western nations to push for concessions for its sponsor Tehran.
The capture of the islands comes after the seizure of the port city of Mokha, overlooking the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
