Amid Iranian attacks: Israel and Kuwait in secret talks on regional cooperation
Kuwait and Israel are holding quiet talks against the backdrop of Iranian attacks on the Gulf state, Kan News reported Thursday evening, citing a source familiar with the matter.
A former minister in the Kuwaiti government told Kan News: “It’s a win-win if the Gulf states cooperate with Israel to curb their common enemies and maintain the security and stability of those countries.”
“There is no longer any reason to ask who the enemy of the Gulf states is and whether it is Iran or Israel,” the former minister said, “especially in light of Iran’s ongoing attacks against the Gulf states, while Israel is striking Iran and destroying many of its military capabilities that could be directed against its neighbors.”
Israel’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Yossi Shelley, told Kan News on Reshet Bet this week that another country is expected to join the Abraham Accords within several months. According to Shelley, “Maybe Kuwait will be the next one.”
The comments by the ambassador to the UAE, who is considered close to the prime minister, generated considerable attention in Kuwait as well, despite the country publicly maintaining a hostile stance toward Israel.
