US pulls $60 million in Harvard grants over alleged failure to address 'anti-Semitic harassment'

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on Monday announced that it was canceling about $60 million worth of grants to Harvard, citing the university’s failure to deal with “anti-Semitic harassment and race discrimination” on campus.
“HHS is taking decisive action to uphold civil rights in higher education,” HHS said in a statement posted to 𝕏. “Due to Harvard University’s continued failure to address anti-Semitic harassment and race discrimination, HHS is terminating multiple multi-year grant awards – totaling approximately $60 million over their full duration.”
“In the Trump Administration, discrimination will not be tolerated on campus,” the statement concluded. “Federal funds must support institutions that protect all students.”
The announcement follows a series of funding cuts to Harvard University initiated by the Trump administration.
Earlier this month, $2.2 billion in grants were canceled after being frozen in April.
Last week, the administration’s Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism announced the termination of an additional $450 million in funding.
In the statement announcing the new cuts, signed by officials from the General Services Administration, the HHS, and the U.S. Department of Education, the task force said that “Harvard University has repeatedly failed to confront the pervasive race discrimination and anti-Semitic harassment plaguing its campus.”
It further stated that “Harvard’s campus, once a symbol of academic prestige, has become a breeding ground for virtue signaling and discrimination. This is not leadership; it is cowardice.”
After the cuts were first announced, Harvard brought a lawsuit against the Trump administration.
“Under whatever name, the Government has ceased the flow of funds to Harvard as part of its pressure campaign to force Harvard to submit to the Government’s control over its academic programs,” the filing stated. “That, in itself, violates Harvard’s constitutional rights.”
In addition to Harvard, the Trump administration has cut or frozen federal funding to a number of universities, including Columbia University, Brown University, Princeton University and others.
