As Israel enters the Purim holiday under active missile fire from Iran and its proxies, Elana Heideman of the Israel Forever Foundation sees profound historical and spiritual alignment in the moment.

Speaking with Christian journalist Paul Calvert, she reflects on the convergence of the ancient biblical story of Esther with today’s geopolitical reality.

For Heideman, the story of Esther is not distant history – it is unfolding in real time. The parallels are unmistakable. Just as the Jewish people once faced annihilation under Haman in Persia, she views the current conflict as part of a larger, recurring struggle.

“This is not a war between Israel and Iran only; this is a war so that Israel can save humanity, because Iran embodies the deterioration of all good in the world to a world of terror,” she said.

She emphasized that the biblical dimension does not negate real-world practicalities and believes that Israel’s defense systems, intelligence coordination, and diplomatic relationships are instruments working alongside divine providence.

Drawing from the Book of Esther – a text in which God’s name does not appear – she pointed to faith expressed through action and prayer: “We follow in that tradition because we know that even when God is not mentioned, that he is there.”

Heideman described the broader human toll often overlooked. “Most people don't realize that there are nearly 30,000 people who are still healing from October 7th.”

At the same time, she noted that even though Israelis are retreating to safe rooms multiple times a day, resilience continues to define the national response.

Looking ahead, Heideman frames the moment in a leadership context, specifically referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump, and says their cooperation has been decisive in challenging Iran’s regime. While acknowledging that no leader is flawless, she sees their alliance as a pivotal partnership marked by timing and resolve.

The full interview explores faith, fear, leadership and resilience in a nation navigating war during the Purim season, offering listeners a firsthand perspective from within Israel at a pivotal moment in its history.
