Number of Israeli defense tech startups have grown significantly since Oct 7

Since Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, there has been a notable growth in the number of defense technology startups in Israel.
“More than a third of all defense tech startups registered with the country’s Startup Nation Central, an organization that tracks Israeli innovation, were created since a deadly Hamas attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, launched the war in Gaza,” Reuters reported.
The report went on to state that “Israeli defense startups have drawn investment from major American venture capital firms that previously avoided the sector as it was considered riskier and mired in regulation.”
Startup Nation Central describes itself as “an independent non-profit organization” that connects “global solution seekers with Israeli innovators and their groundbreaking products while fortifying Israel from within.”
The organization regularly publishes reports on the startups of various sectors within the Israeli economy.
The significant increase in startups is not the only positive metric of defense-related economic growth Israel has experienced during the war in Gaza.
In 2024, Israel’s defense exports hit a record high of about $14.8 billion, despite the global backlash against the Israeli government.
This continued the trend of the previous three years, in which each year saw an increase in defense exports.
Israel has also been ranked as the world’s 8th largest arms exporter.
