Following the massacres and violent clashes in Jabal al-Druze in southern Syria, a large demonstration was held on Saturday in the center of As-Suwayda, under the banner “The Right to Self-Determination.” The protest featured chants and signs calling for annexation to Israel, and some participants were seen wearing Israeli military gear bearing the Israeli flag. This was reported on Hadashot HaShabbat on the Kan 11 news channel.

At the demonstration in As-Suwayda, three armed Druze participants were seen wearing military vests with the Israeli flag. This equipment was sewn in Julis and was part of the humanitarian aid recently transferred to Jabal al-Druze, intended to protect the Druze community.

This week, Kan News reported that the al-Sharaa regime is still seeking a way to resolve the crisis with the Druze following the massacres and bloody unrest in southern Syria. Druze interlocutors of the Damascus leadership suggested to a senior official that Ahmad al-Dalati, commander of the Internal Security Forces in As-Suwayda, be dismissed, since he was the one who led the forces during the deadly clashes. Al-Dalati also serves as a key liaison in the security dialogue between Israel and Syria.

At the beginning of the month, it was revealed that Israel conveyed a message to the al-Sharaa regime in Syria, demanding that it govern southern Syria through the Syrian General Security apparatus – an entity under the Interior Ministry – without the presence of the Syrian army.
