Brother of Israeli hostage Itzik Elgarat says autopsy reveals he was tortured to death by Hamas captors

Danny Elgarat, whose brother Itzik was taken hostage by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023, and later died in captivity, announced on Thursday that an autopsy revealed he was tortured to death.
“Itzik did not die of a heart attack,” Elgarat said. “Itzik was murdered with extreme cruelty.”
Elgarat said his brother was found with “multiple broken ribs, fractures in his toes and a broken nose, injuries he said were caused by external pressure on the chest and other violence,” according to Ynet News.
While Elgarat said the National Center of Forensic Medicine was unable to determine if the torture was the cause of death, he added that the center affirmed that it was, indeed, a possible cause of death.
Itzik’s body was returned to Israel as part of the ceasefire deal in February, along with three other Israeli men killed during their captivity by Hamas in Gaza.
At her brother's funeral, Danny blamed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his death.
“Today you’re being laid to eternal rest in a grave dug for you by the prime minister himself,” he said.
“Netanyahu defeated us and you didn’t return from captivity. The enemy who caused your death was not the one who abducted you, but the one who abandoned you.”
