Three years of war: 30,000 wounded admitted to Defense Ministry Rehabilitation Department

Israel's Defense Ministry’s Rehabilitation Department released figures Tuesday marking three years since the outbreak of the war.

According to the report, approximately 30,000 wounded members of the security forces have been admitted to the department since Oct. 7, 2023. The figure brings the total number of people receiving treatment from the Rehabilitation Department from all of Israel’s wars to 91,200.

Among those wounded during the war and admitted over the past three years, 47% are under the age of 30, 62% are reservists and 8% are women. Some 63% of the wounded – approximately 18,900 people – have been recognized as suffering from psychological conditions.

Regarding physical injuries, the ministry reported 106 amputees, 249 people with complex head injuries and 29 suffering from blindness or permanent visual impairment. Only 63 of the wounded have been recognized as having a disability rating of 100% or higher.

According to Rehabilitation Department projections, the total number of patients is expected to reach 100,000 by 2028, with half suffering from mental health conditions. Of the 91,200 people currently receiving treatment through the department, 42,500 – approximately 46% – are recognized as suffering from mental health conditions and post-traumatic stress.
