Somaliland president plans official visit to Israel in coming weeks
Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi is planning an official visit to Israel in the near future, Somaliland sources say.
According to the sources, the president intends during the visit to formally join the Abraham Accords and sign a series of bilateral agreements with Israel in areas including agriculture, mining and oil, security, infrastructure, and tourism. The visit could take place as early as the second week of January. Abdullahi has visited Israel before, but previously did so secretly.
Israeli officials have confirmed that talks are underway regarding a possible visit, though no date has yet been set.
The planned visit follows Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s announcement last weekend formally recognizing Somaliland as an independent state.
