Serbia: Attempted stabbing attack at Israeli Embassy in Belgrade thwarted
Serbian police announced Wednesday morning that an attempted stabbing attack outside the Israeli Embassy in Belgrade had been thwarted after a suspect linked to ISIS attacked a local police officer and was shot dead.
Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dačić described the incident in an interview with local media as a terrorist attack. According to Dačić, a minor armed with knives attacked a gendarmerie officer guarding the embassy building in Belgrade shortly before midnight, while shouting “Allahu Akbar.” The officer shot and killed the attacker.
Dačić added that the attacker was known to Serbian security services as an individual with ties to ISIS. Following the incident, Serbia’s Interior Ministry raised the country’s terrorism threat level to “red,” the highest level.
