Saudi Arabia running low on interceptors amid continued Houthi attacks
Officials in Saudi Arabia reportedly told the Wall Street Journal that the kingdom is running low on interceptor missiles to defend against ballistic missile attacks from the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Houthi rebels have been striking Saudi Arabian oil and transportation infrastructure in retaliation for for the kingdom’s role in leading a coalition to fight Houthis in Yemen.
According to the WSJ, Riyadh is “struggling to cover the vast country with air defense” and is “shifting batteries around to try to protect palaces and energy infrastructure.”
WSJ says Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman is “shuttling between heavily guarded palaces equipped with bunkers and is guarded by a handpicked security team,” as the Houthis have targeted Riyadh, hitting the King Khalid International Airport four times in the past two weeks.
