Report: Israel planned strike on Iran but was blocked by Trump administration
Israel planned to strike Iran earlier this month, but U.S. President Donald Trump opposed the operation ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections, the Financial Times reported.
According to sources cited in the report, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pressed Trump to resume hostilities, partly over concerns about Iranian nuclear activities. The IDF subsequently prepared for an attack planned for the weekend of Oct. 10.
Israel reportedly presented an updated target list that included civilian infrastructure, such as power plants, as well as nuclear facilities and regime targets.
A senior Israeli official said the operation could have served as a “pressure tool against Iran” during negotiations, adding that any resumption of fighting ultimately depends on Trump’s decision.
