Iranian foreign minister in New York: Israel given ‘a completely free hand to do whatever it wishes’
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in New York on Monday ahead of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, where he said Iran would use the international gathering to defend its positions following the war with the United States and Israel.
“Our most important objective is to appear on a major international platform to defend the righteousness, the rights and the interests of the Iranian people,” Araghchi told reporters.
Araghchi said this year’s General Assembly comes at an especially critical time, accusing some countries of disregarding international institutions and international law.
“As a result, we see a criminal entity like the Zionist regime given a completely free hand to do whatever it wishes,” he said. “Yet, regrettably, Western and European countries — who style themselves as champions of human rights and humanitarian law — remain silent in the face of these actions.”
