Father of six murdered in Samaria on eve of Yom Kippur was grandson of slain Algerian chief rabbi
Netanel Shukrun, the Israeli father of six murdered by a terrorist in Samaria on the eve of Yom Kippur, was the grandson of Algeria's chief rabbi Jacob Chekroun slain in 1957.
At Shukrun’s funeral on Sunday, following the end of Yom Kippur, Yossi Dagan, head of the Samaria Regional Council, highlighted the parallel between the two generations: “Your grandfather was killed in riots in Algeria, and you were killed for being a proud Jew,” Dagan said.
“You ascended heavenward after immersing yourself in a spring on the eve of the holiest day.”
Shukrun's eldest son, who survived the attack, recited Kaddish for his father and thanked him for saving his life.
