Acting Elections Committee chief: ‘Elections cannot be stolen here, but their legitimacy can be undermined’
The acting director-general of Israel’s Central Elections Committee warned that while elections in Israel cannot be stolen, attempts could be made to undermine their legitimacy.
The remarks come after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held an unusual meeting Sunday with Police Commissioner Danny Levy to discuss police preparations for the elections, just two days before Israelis head to the polls.
Following the meeting invitation, a petition was filed with the Central Elections Committee. Its chairman, Justice Noam Sohlberg, ruled that the meeting could proceed but clarified that authority over election integrity and election preparations would remain with the committee.
