Trump, Netanyahu should finish the job on the Iranian regime

In parts of Texas, we have a plentiful supply of “Bull Nettles,” which are troublesome weeds (technically herbs) with stinging “hairs” that are very painful if touched. They will completely take over a garden or pasture if you don’t aggressively eradicate them. As a kid growing up in the country, my summer job was getting rid of those bull nettles, and there was a proper procedure. You couldn’t just cut them off at the ground, or even a little below the ground. You had to dig deep enough to get the entire roots. If you left even the smallest fragment of the roots, they would grow back … and spread.

Likewise, the regime of the radical Mullahs will have to be completely eliminated at the root. They will never surrender, and I’m certain Trump and Netanyahu knew that all along. The attempts to “negotiate” were more about public opinion. Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said last Saturday that those dreaming of their unconditional surrender “will take that dream to their graves.” Let’s not forget, these fanatics are suicidal, while thinking they do God a service. So if they don’t value their own lives, there are no bargaining chips left.

In 1 Samuel 15:3, we read that God—through the prophet Samuel—told Saul to “completely destroy the entire Amalekite nation.” Wow. On the surface, that doesn’t sound like a loving God! But let’s take a closer look.

Saul was disobedient to the prophet’s instructions and spared King Agag, and Samuel later killed the evil king himself. Jewish history has it that Agag was the last man standing of the Amalekites and fathered a child before being killed to keep the race going. The movie, One Night With the King,  based on Tommy Tenney’s book, Hadassah, portrayed this view. Others hold to the conjecture that some of them escaped from Saul. But either way, the Amalekites later reappear in scripture in 1 Samuel 30 and 1 Chronicles 4. The fact remains that Saul evidently had an opportunity to wipe them out, or God wouldn’t have told him—through Samuel—to do so.

When the Amalekites reappear in 1 Samuel 30, we find the story of David and his men returning home to Ziklag, only to discover the Amalekites had burned it with fire and carried off the women and children (verses 1–2). That sounds a lot like the barbaric attacks on Jewish people by Hamas—a proxy of Iran—on October 7, 2023. It was the worst massacre of the Jewish people since the Holocaust..

In verse 8, we read, “Then David asked the LORD, ‘Should I chase after this band of raiders? Will I catch them?’ And the LORD told him, ‘Yes, go after them. You will surely recover everything that was taken from you!” David and his men did go after them, and they did recover all (verses 18–20). They killed most of the Amalekites, except for 400 men who escaped on camels (verse 17).

If we fast-forward to the Book of Esther, Haman, who was the Hitler of his day, contrived a plan to annihilate all Jewish people in Persia (modern-day Iran). Some scholars believe he was a descendant of the Amalekite king, Agag. That’s, in part, because Esther 3:1 refers to Haman as “the son of Hammedatha the Agagite.” Fortunately, Queen Esther intervened and thwarted his plan, and Haman and his sons were hanged on the gallows that had been built for the Jewish people.

So, they were finally rid of those Jewish-hating Amalekites and their descendants, right? I wish that had been the case, but I don’t think so. The Book of Esther took place in present-day Iran, and their hatred of the Jewish people has carried on to this day. My personal view is that some of those enemies of the Jewish people currently in Iran are descendants of Haman and the Amalekites who “slipped through the cracks.” But at the very least, that same evil spirit of anti-Semitism has been passed down in the region. No wonder God told Samuel to completely destroy them! It would have been for the greater good. God lives outside of time and foresaw through the ages, including the past 47 years when the radical Mullahs have been chanting “Death to Israel” (and America). Moreover, Iran has sponsored terrorism inflicted on the Jews through Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and elsewhere. To be clear, I’m referring to the evil regime that needs to be eliminated and not the wonderful people of Iran, who deserve freedom.

In 2016, former President Barak Obama tried to appease the Iranians with $400 million cash stacked on wooden pallets and flown into Iran on unmarked airplanes. This was the first installment of $1.7 billion. Moreover, Obama gave us the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran (JCPOA) that gave them relief from sanctions and released $100 billion in frozen assets that went right into their coffers to fund terrorism. Neither did the agreement guarantee “anytime, anywhere” inspections, which was incredibly naive. Obama’s actions were foolish, at best, or treasonous, at worst. Either way, he has some of the blood on his hands from the past decade of terrorism in the Middle East. You can’t appease these people! And you can’t negotiate with them. Oh, they may go through the motions of negotiations but only to buy them time. And they may even sign the dotted line, but they won’t honor it. They have never honored a single agreement, so they’re not worth the paper they’re printed on.

Even since June 22, 2025 (less than nine months ago), when we totally obliterated their nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—according to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)—Iran already has sufficient enriched uranium for 10 to 12 nuclear weapons. They keep coming back like the Bull Nettles! As Ambassador Mike Huckabee has said, “There’s no education in the second kick of a mule.” Their education should have been in that first kick of “Midnight Hammer.” These people just don’t get it, and they are never going to get it.  Trump and Netanyahu must finish the job, keeping the pressure on until this evil regime completely crumbles. “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan” (Proverbs 29:2).
