No country should be consulting a psychic – especially Israel

Would it surprise you to hear that Israeli psychic, Uri Geller, has been consulted by a number of countries, who apparently believe that relying upon his powers could be a benefit to them?

According to a recent Jerusalem Post article, Geller has not only been contacted by Israel, but, in the past, by the U.K. and the U.S., in an attempt to gain an advantage “which cannot happen with anything known to the human mind from a scientific point of view.”

In fact, it has been claimed that during the first year of the Gaza War and most recently, in Operation “Rising Lion,” Israel consulted a psychic, which is an occult practice.  If this is true, there is, indeed, cause for worry, having a biblical precedent.

The sad tale of King Saul, as recorded in I Samuel 28, is one where the king pays a visit to a medium (also considered a psychic) prior to waging war against the dreaded Philistines. When Saul got a glimpse at these fearsome warriors, it says that his “heart greatly trembled.” Praying for an answer from God, which never came, he, instead, sought out a medium to gain insight as to how the war would go.

Disguising himself, he came to her by night, asking that she conjure up the dead prophet Samuel.  Once making contact with him, Saul asked him how to proceed, telling Samuel that he was unable to hear from God.

Samuel answered him, but surely not with the words he wanted to hear, because the response was, “The Lord has torn the kingdom out of your hand and given it to your neighbor, to David.  As you did not obey the Lord and did not execute His fierce wrath on Amalek, so the Lord has done this thing to you this day. Moreover, the Lord will also give over Israel along with you into the hands of the Philistines, therefore tomorrow you and your sons will be with me.  Indeed, the Lord will give over the army of Israel into the hands of the Philistines.” (vs. 17 – 19)

This was the tragic end of a king who knew better than to consult a medium or spiritist, because prior to this time, Saul killed all those who practiced divination. In fact, the moment that this particular medium recognized the man sitting before her to be King Saul, she shrieked in fear, believing that a trap had been set for her, knowing that she would meet her end.

As soon as Saul heard what was to befall him and Israel, he realized the great sin which he had committed, but it was too late.  Every word which Samuel had uttered, from the grave, indeed, came to pass.  The story ends with Saul and his sons being overtaken by the Philistines.  Badly wounded by archers, Saul makes a request of his armor bearer to kill him with his sword so that he would not fall into the hands of his enemy.  His refusal to do so, caused Saul to fall on his own sword.

This was no fitting end for the man anointed with a flask of oil by the prophet Samuel who said, “Has not the Lord anointed you a ruler over His inheritance?” (I Samuel 10:1) The life of a mighty man, once filled with God’s Spirit had come to a sudden end, because he willingly disobeyed the One whom he was supposed to revere and rely upon for all things – especially the victory he sought against his enemies!

This passage is not just an interesting story, which occurred thousands of years ago, but which no longer has relevance or effect.  What happened then still has a significant application for today’s modern times.  It wouldn’t have been recorded had it not been a vital instruction, guiding and advising us how we, as the Jewish people, must conduct ourselves.

These historical lessons let us know the consequences which follow when God is replaced by occult powers that purport to supersede the wisdom and sovereignty of our Creator.  We must remember how we suffered, as a nation and as a people, each time we tried to replace the Almighty.

That is why, if this report is true – that, in fact, Israel has relied upon the supposed powers of a fallen man- things could go very wrong for us, if we continue on such a forbidden path.

Geller, who claims to have used his “paranormal abilities” as far back as the 1970s, apparently did so in order to enhance the military capabilities of those countries for whom he worked, claiming that, “to this day, there remains a secret group of psychics who use their abilities for military purposes. Unwilling to reveal any details about this group or its members, other than himself, he did reveal that there was one member of this team that was essential to their success in Iran: artificial intelligence, saying AI helped us a lot.  Now, Geller has taken credit for protecting Israel through the use of psychic abilities. In 2024, he claimed to have been involved with stopping Iranian missiles and drones from striking Israel.”

Although he also acknowledges our fighting power by saying, “Nobody can beat us, because we have the best soldiers, pilots, navy, and best commandos in the world, along with our intelligence agencies.”  He then adds that we have “the help of God” almost as an afterthought.

This is the sad and dangerous assurance of a man who believes that his powers are on equal footing with those of the Almighty. But we have been told that “God will not share His glory with another or give His praise to idols.” (Isaiah 42:8) In other words, no one should be attributed with Israel’s success or continued survival except God, Himself!

Any country that consults a psychic is literally playing with fire, because if the scriptures are still applicable for today, then those who seek out paranormal sources for military advantage, may also have the kingdom torn from them.  They might also be responsible for leading their people to a devastating loss.

Israel, called to be a Light to the Nations and a Holy People, must not return to the same mistakes which caused her to wander aimlessly for 2,000 years in the wilderness of exile.  We must return to our God, who has promised to preserve us and give us the victory over the fiercest of enemies.
