New one-day COVID record in Israel: 11,187 cases

Yesterday, the first day of the school year, set a record for the highest number of positive COVID infections, 11,187, since the start of the pandemic in the beginning of 2020.

It was the third day in a row that Israel reported more than 10,000 positive COVID cases. Approximately half of the infections were among children and teenagers.

Even though Israel is one of the most vaccinated countries among its population, surprisingly Israel also ranks first in the world in the number verified cases per million in the last seven days.

The positive rate was 7.92%. However, for school-aged children and teenagers, the positive rate was even higher at 11%.
