The Ministry of Health reported 501 news coronavirus cases yesterday, half of which were children.

After several weeks of daily caseloads between 200-300 confirmed cases, yesterday saw an increase of about 45%.

The reinstituted Coronavirus Cabinet is set to meet tonight to discuss the recent uptake in cases and potential measures to combat what seems like a new outbreak due to the spread of the super-contagious Delta variant.

Some options on the table include dispensing a third dose of the vaccine, bringing back the green passport system in some form and limiting large gatherings.

In addition, the Cabinet may impose further restrictions on Israeli citizens returning from abroad. The expected opening of Ben-Gurion Airport to individual foreign tourists was already postponed from July 1 to Aug. 1.
