Google co-founder Brin condemns 'antisemitic' UN report accusing tech giant of aiding Gaza 'genocide'

Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, urged the company’s employees to “be careful citing transparently antisemitic” United Nations sources, after the world body published a report accusing the tech giant of aiding Israeli “war crimes” and “genocide” in Gaza.

Brin, who is Jewish and was born in the former Soviet Union, argued that “throwing around the term genocide in relation to Gaza is deeply offensive to many Jewish people who have suffered actual genocides.”

A “current member” of the internal forum reportedly authenticated a screenshot of Brin’s remark, which was sent to The Washington Post.

Brin reportedly made his internal remark after the UN rapporteur on Palestinian rights Francesca Albanese, published a report last month where she accused tech giants like Google, Amazon and Microsoft of allegedly assisting the Jewish state’s “ongoing genocidal campaign in Gaza.” Albanese argue that the tech giants offered cloud and artificial intelligence support for Israel’s military and intelligence agencies.

However, her accusation against Israel is not supported by the facts on the ground.

Israel’s army and intelligence agencies have for instance used artificial intelligence facial recognition to identify and target terrorists. In other words, Israel has used AI technologies to further minimize civilian casualties in war zones in Gaza and beyond.

Italian-born Albanese has a history of antisemitism and extreme hostility towards the Jewish state. Since the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas-led atrocities and massacre occurred in southern Israel, Albanese has systematically tried to minimize Hamas’ crimes against humanity while demonizing Israel, equating its self-defense against the genocidal Jihadist organization Hamas with “genocide.”

In October 2024, Albanese faced a backlash after she compared Israel with Nazi Germany.

“Our collective obliviousness to what led, 100 years ago, to the Third Reich's expansionism and the genocide of people not in conformity with the "pure race" is asinine. And it is leading to the commission of yet another genocide, yet another regional war and potentially yet another global one,” Albanese claimed at the time.

The World Jewish Congress (WJC) strongly condemned Albanese’s remark.

“The constant statements made by [Albanese] comparing Israel to Nazi Germany are not only deeply offensive, but a gross distortion of history,” WJC stated.

In April, the United States condemned Albanese’s “virulent antisemitism” and urged the United Nations to not renew her role as the UN Special Rapporteur, which it did anyway.

“Today, the US sent SG@antonioguterres a letter opposing Francesca Albanese’s renewal as UN Special Rapporteur. We condemn her virulent antisemitism, which demonizes Israel and supports Hamas,” Washington’s UN mission wrote on 𝕏.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Wednesday that the U.S. would impose sanctions on Albanese due to her efforts to weaponize international law against Israel and the United States and spread of antisemitism.

“The United States has repeatedly condemned and objected to the biased and malicious activities of Albanese that have long made her unfit for service as a Special Rapporteur. Albanese has spewed unabashed antisemitism, expressed support for terrorism, and open contempt for the United States, Israel, and the West. That bias has been apparent across the span of her career, including recommending that the ICC, without a legitimate basis, issue arrest warrants targeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant,” Rubio stated.

“Albanese’s campaign of political and economic warfare against the United States and Israel will no longer be tolerated. We will always stand by our partners in their right to self-defense,” Rubio wrote on 𝕏.
