Yemen crisis fails to split Saudi Arabia–UAE alliance
Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have not declared a breakup of their alliance, despite an unusual escalation between the two in southern Yemen.
The tensions follow Saudi airstrikes overnight targeting weapons and vehicles that had reportedly been transferred to southern Yemeni forces backed by the UAE. In an effort to de-escalate, Emirati officials said they would withdraw some of their remaining forces from Yemen at the request of Saudi Arabia and its local allies.
However, the UAE-backed forces said they do not intend to pull back from areas they have recently taken control of. A source from the Saudi royal family told Kan News that he believes a solution will ultimately be found and that a full rupture of the alliance is unlikely.
