Venezuela renews diplomatic relations with Israel for first time since 2009

Israel and Venezuela have agreed to renew the consular relations between the countries, after diplomatic ties between them had been halted since 2009, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar announced on X.

Sa'ar said that during talks in recent weeks with Venezuela's Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia González, they "agreed to establish a coordination mechanism that will enable the provision of consular services to citizens of both countries. This move creates an official coordination channel between Israel and Venezuela, which have not maintained diplomatic relations between them since 2009."

"In addition, it was agreed to continue cooperation within the framework of emergency and rehabilitation efforts from the earthquake damage," Sa'ar added, recalling that an Israeli delegation departed for Venezuela following the massive earthquakes on June 24.
