US removes Syria from 'state sponsors of terrorism' list for first time since 1979
The U.S. on Monday removed Syria from its list of state sponsors of terrorism for the first time since 1979, when Washington first accused the government of former President Hafez al-Assad of supporting militant groups, including Palestinian terrorists.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on X: "Today, I formally rescinded Syria’s designation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism. This action unlocks new potential for Syria’s economic revitalization and progress."
"The Trump Administration continues to advance U.S. national security to achieve peace, prosperity, and security in the Middle East."
