US, mediators agree PA to play role in control of Rafah crossing
Mediating countries and the United States have reached agreements under which the Palestinian Authority, together with a European Union team, will take part in operating the Rafah crossing once it reopens.
According to the understandings, the Palestinian General Intelligence Service headed by Majed Faraj will carry out the role alongside European personnel, who may operate in uniform or civilian clothing to obscure their identity.
The sides also agreed that the crossing will open only when it can operate in both directions, and not gradually for outbound traffic from Gaza to Egypt alone, as Israel has sought.
