US feared Israel could target senior Iranian negotiators - report

U.S. officials feared Israel was planning to assassinate senior members of Iran’s negotiating team, believing such an operation could derail the nuclear talks between Washington and Tehran, The New York Times reported.

According to the report, U.S. officials believed Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf were potential Israeli targets. Concerned that such assassinations would collapse the negotiations, the United States reportedly asked countries in the region to warn Iran of the potential threat.

Israel declined to comment on the report.
