Ultra-orthodox groups schedule anti-conscription protest in Jerusalem for Tuesday
Members of the Ashkenazi and Sephardic ultra-Orthodox communities announced demonstrations against Haredi conscription for Tuesday evening, as the coalition has been unable to advance the so-called Haredi Draft Bill.
Haredi parties from the coalition have continued to speak out against attempts to conscript more soldiers from the ultra-Orthodox sector, while young haredi men have recently engaged in protests against attempts by the government to increase the number of ultra-Orthodox men entering the military.
The main rally is being organized by a cooperation of Haredi rabbis from the Ashkenazi Hasidic community and the Sephardic community, including a rabbi from Shas party’s Council of Torah Sages. While attendance at the rally is estimated to be lower than the approximately 200,000 who demonstrated in October 2025, Israel Police and Jerusalem municipal authorities are already making preparations for the rally.
