Ultra-Orthodox groups launch new protests after IDF arrests two draft dodgers
Hundreds of ultra-Orthodox men blocked a highway and clashed with police officers during an anti-draft protest near the Haredi city of Bnei Brak, triggered by the arrest of two suspected draft evaders last night, Israeli media reported.
Police declared the demonstration, which blocked traffic on Highway 4 for about three hours, illegal and moved to disperse it, arresting at least one man in the process.
Protesters chanted slogans including, “We do not believe in the rule of heretics, and we do not report to their offices."
A similar protest took place at the Gilat Junction between Beersheba and Ofakim, which blocked Route 25.
