UK charges man over London stabbing, raises terror threat level
UK police have charged a 45-year-old man with the stabbing of two Jews in London earlier this week, authorities said on Friday, as the national terrorism threat level was raised to 'severe.'
The Crown Prosecution Service said Essa Suleiman faces three counts of attempted murder after stabbing two Jewish men in Golders Green and attacking another man at a different location on the same day. He is also charged with possession of a bladed article.
Suleiman is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
The development comes after the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre raised the UK’s national terrorism threat level from ‘substantial’ to ‘severe.’ Authorities said the chances of a terrorist attack are now “highly likely,” as they observe “an elevated threat to Jewish and Israeli individuals and institutions.”
