Turkey, Saudi Arabia and nuclear-armed Pakistan move toward defense alliance

Turkey is holding talks with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on forming a trilateral defense pact, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan confirmed.

Pakistan’s Minister of Defense Production Raza Hayat Harraj said negotiations have been underway for months and are nearing completion, with only final understandings outstanding. He said the agreement, in preparation for about a year, is intended to bolster regional defense after two years of conflict and is separate from a Pakistan–Saudi defense deal signed last September.

Fidan said discussions are ongoing, stressing the need for broader regional cooperation and trust, adding that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan envisions a larger, more comprehensive platform.

Bloomberg recently reported that Turkey is seeking to join an existing Pakistan–Saudi defense framework, citing close ties and defense cooperation among the three countries.
