Turkey approves landmark amnesty law for Kurdish militants
The Turkish Parliament approved the “Law to Strengthen National Solidarity and Social Cohesion" overnight. Approved by 467 votes in the 600-seat chamber, the legislation offers amnesty to members of the PKK (“Kurdistan Workers’ Party”).
Fighters who lay down their weapons will be granted amnesty, paving the way for thousands of Kurdish guerrillas to return to their homes in Turkey.
