Trump targets Iran with ‘Economic D-Day’ sanctions
U.S. President Donald Trump announced broad economic sanctions against Iran via social media on Thursday following a collapse of talks between the countries.
Describing the measures as “economic warfare and isolation on an unprecedented scale," Trump claimed his administration had offered Tehran ample opportunity to reach an agreement before implementing what he called the "most crushing economic operation ever taken against any country."
Under the directive, any country whose financial institutions, commercial or government entities assist Iran risks financial retaliation from Washington.
“This will be an ECONOMIC D-DAY, and we need all of our Allies to stand with the United States of America to isolate, and defeat, the Iran threat,“ he said, claiming the measures would “cripple them and their ability to project terror worldwide.”
