U.S. President Donald Trump was secretly flown out of Turkey last month amid fears that Iran could assassinate him by targeting his new Air Force One, The Washington Post reported. The elaborate security operation was reportedly prompted by intelligence provided by Israel and concerns that the Qatar-gifted aircraft was not yet equipped with its full defensive systems.
According to the report, Trump publicly boarded Air Force One in Ankara before being secretly removed through a side door using a catering truck. He was transferred to another military aircraft, flown to a U.S. base in Britain and then switched planes again before continuing to Washington.
Journalists and White House staff aboard Air Force One were reportedly unaware that Trump was not traveling with them and that their aircraft was effectively being used as a decoy. The maneuver was highly unusual, with only a handful of known cases in recent decades in which a U.S. president secretly traveled aboard an aircraft other than Air Force One.
