Trump reportedly orders halt to talks with Iran as US shifts to long-term pressure strategy
U.S. President Donald Trump has instructed senior administration officials involved in negotiations with Iran to stop the talks, a U.S. official told CNN.
According to the report, the administration has decided to pursue a longer-term strategy of economically “choking” Iran rather than seeking a rapid agreement, while maintaining the U.S. naval blockade.
Trump said Tuesday that “there are no talks or conversations going on, or scheduled” with Iran and that the naval blockade remains in effect.
