Three killed, two injured in police shootouts with gang members
Three men were killed and two injured during multiple incidents of gang-related violence in Israel on Sunday.
One man was killed and another was moderately injured by a car bomb as the men were driving on Highway 40 in the Negev. The victim, Adir Ivgi, is a known criminal with gang connections.
Police forces were on the scene at the time, tracking a car with two members of the Jarushi crime family. The suspects, who may have activated the bomb, fled the scene as the police began to chase them.
Police opened fire on the vehicle, killing one suspect and moderately injuring the other.
Following the incident, a large number of police forces entered the town of Ramle to prevent criminal riots by the Jarushi gang as a reaction to the deaths. During the operation, a 16-year-old opened fire on the police, who responded and killed him.
