Supreme Court president: 'We are in the midst of a regime change'

Supreme Court President Isaac Amit warned that Israel is undergoing a “regime change” during a hearing on petitions against legislation altering the composition of the Judicial Selection Committee, a key element of Justice Minister Yariv Levin’s judicial reform.

During the proceedings, a Knesset representative argued that including lawyers on the committee could create conflicts of interest, citing concerns that bar association leaders might promote certain attorneys for judicial appointments.

Amit criticized the proposed changes, warning that “every judge will have a political identification chip implanted in them.” He also suggested that if political influence is the concern, “perhaps two politicians should be removed from the committee.”
