Somaliland celebrates Israeli recognition; Arab League and UN to hold emergency talks
Somaliland celebrated overnight after Israel announced its recognition of the breakaway region as an independent state, marking the first international recognition since Somaliland declared independence in 1991.
Amid the celebrations, and at Somalia’s request, the UN Security Council and the Arab League said they will convene emergency discussions on the issue next week.
