Senior Israeli judge killed in road accident on Route 6

Judge Benny Sagi, president of the Be’er Sheva District Court, was killed Sunday evening in a traffic accident on Route 6 near Elazi.

An initial investigation found that a vehicle attempted to exit the highway onto a dirt road when Sagi, riding a motorcycle on the shoulder, collided with it from behind. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The judiciary called Sagi a respected and beloved leader, with President Isaac Herzog and senior officials praising his legal brilliance and integrity. Born in 1971, Sagi was appointed court president last year after a long judicial career that included senior posts in Tel Aviv.
