Senior Egyptian official: Cairo thinks a Netanyahu–Sisi meeting is “inappropriate”

The Qatari-affiliated newspaper Al-Araby Al-Jadeed quoted an informed Egyptian source as saying that Egypt’s leadership has set clear conditions for a potential high-level meeting with Israel. According to the source, Cairo demands a full IDF withdrawal from the Philadelphi Corridor and a return to the pre-war security situation.

A second condition, the source said, is Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s formal approval of the Egypt–Israel gas deal, which Cairo views as a realistic pathway that would give the Egyptian government the necessary political justification for such a meeting in the eyes of both domestic and regional audiences.
