Sultan Abu al-Hija, 31, a resident of Tamra, will be charged with security offenses after allegedly contacting Hamas’ military wing in an effort to assist the group, the Shin Bet and Israel Police said Friday.
Abu al-Hija was arrested about two weeks ago in a joint operation, the statement said.
Investigators found that he had also made contact with Iranian intelligence operatives, but was arrested before carrying out any tasks on their behalf.
“The Shin Bet and Israel Police view any involvement by Israeli citizens in activities that endanger the security of the state and its citizens with the utmost seriousness,” the agencies said, adding that they would continue to act within their legal authority and use all means available to “bring those involved to justice.”
