Rubio: Israel–Lebanon talks were ‘very good,’ close to reaching ‘commitment of intent’
With talks continuing on the second day, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised the negotiations between Lebanon and Israel held in Washington, saying the results were “very good.”
“I think we are very close in our hopes of getting a commitment of intent between the two countries… It'll be a process. It'll take some time... But I can tell you that for the first time in 30 years, the sovereign government of Lebanon is speaking to the government of Israel directly. That's who we're going to be negotiating and working with. Not Hezbollah. Hezbollah is not the government of Lebanon," Rubio said.
"Hopefully, today will be a day that can build on some of the things we were able to make progress on yesterday."
