Report: Trump advisors prefer Israel strike Iran first

Senior advisers to U.S. President Donald Trump believe it would be preferable for Israel to strike Iran first on its own before the United States launches any attack, Politico reported overnight, citing two sources familiar with internal discussions.

According to the report, an Israeli strike could trigger an Iranian response that would help build U.S. public support for American military action. One advisor said the administration thinks it would be easier politically if Israel acts first and Iran then retaliates.

Despite this, the sources assess that most likely scenario remains a coordinated U.S.–Israel operation, with one official saying the prevailing assumption is that “they’re going to bomb Iran.”
