Report: Tony Blair won’t lead Gaza peace council, but may still have a role in future governance

Several sources told the Financial Times that former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair was recently considered to head the temporary governing body for Gaza, but his name was removed due to opposition from several Arab and Muslim countries. Another source said that although Blair is unlikely to lead the proposed Peace Council, he may still play a role in Gaza’s future administrative framework.

Blair’s office did not respond to the report, but a person close to him said he is expected to sit on a managing board that would coordinate between a Palestinian technocratic committee and the Peace Council, alongside U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

As Kan News reported Saturday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a secret meeting with Blair about a week ago. The Prime Minister’s Office did not disclose the meeting.
