Police & IDF foil smuggling attempt in Jordan Valley, catch 10 guns and 2 smugglers
In a joint operation by the Israel Police and the IDF, troops intercepted an arms smuggling attempt near the Damiyah (Adam) Bridge, north of Jericho in the Jordan Valley, overnight.
"A shipment of ten weapons into Israeli territory was foiled," the police said in a statement. "Yesterday evening, security forces identified findings indicating suspicious activity suggesting smuggling in the border area. As a result, police and IDF forces were rushed to the area, and numerous measures were carried out to thwart the act, including ambushes, surveillance, and searches. These led to the identification and arrest of two suspects, residents of Jericho in their twenties, near Adam Bridge."
"During their questioning in the field, a bag that they had concealed in the area was located. Inside it, the officers found 10 pistols that, as stated, had been smuggled that night by the suspects across the eastern border."
The statement concluded by vowing that "the security forces will continue to combat the smuggling of various types of weapons along the eastern border, which could reach terrorist elements and criminals."
