Palestinian clans exchange gunfire in Hebron; one killed, 10 wounded
A violent clash between branches of the al-Rajabi clan in Hebron has left one family member dead and around 10 others wounded, with unrest still ongoing just hundreds of meters from the Jewish community in the city.
The confrontation, involving cousins living near one another, escalated on Thursday amid a long-running economic dispute over family businesses. Several family members allegedly killed one relative and injured others, as rioting spread to arson attacks on shops and homes and widespread property damage.
Local sources said Palestinian security forces attempted to intervene but failed to contain the violence. A funeral for the victim is expected later today, after which local officials believe a temporary truce may be reached.
Hebron, which is structured around armed clans, remains tense, with concerns that the fighting could also endanger nearby Jewish residents.
