On 52nd anniversary of Turkish invasion, Israel reaffirms support for Cyprus
The Israeli Foreign Ministry expressed support for Cyprus on the anniversary of the 1974 Turkish invasion, reaffirming the island’s sovereignty and calling for the resumption of negotiations toward a lasting solution.
“Israel reaffirms its unwavering support for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus and stands in solidarity with Cyprus,” the ministry said.
In a post on X on Monday, the ministry called Turkey’s continued military presence in the north of the island and its efforts to alter the status quo through unilateral actions “unacceptable.”
The statement comes a month after the Israeli government’s official recognition of the Armenian Genocide, which Turkey sharply criticized.
