Official number of Israelis killed on Oct. 7 revised to about 1,200 people

The official estimated number of victims murdered by Hamas terrorists during their assault on Israeli border communities on October 7 was revised to 1,200, down from 1,400, Israel’s foreign ministry announced on Friday.

“Around 1,200 is the official number of victims of the Oct. 7 massacre,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Lior Haiat said in a statement.

The new estimate was given as the work of identifying the thousands of bodies progresses slowly but still continues. The Israel Police said that the bodies of 845 civilians, 318 soldiers, and 59 police officers have been identified so far.

The adjusted number of Israeli victims may be because some of the bodies that were counted as victims have now been identified as belonging to terrorists who infiltrated the Gaza border on Oct. 7.

Israeli officials have said that some 1,500 terrorists are believed to have been killed inside Israel and near the border fence.
